Terms of Use

Draft: this text is awaiting review by a lawyer and is not final.

TellTrips (telltrips.com) is run by [registered name of the operator], [postal address] (“we”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

TellTrips is free to use. We do not sell trips, tickets, hotel rooms or visas, and we take no bookings and no payments from travellers.

1. Your account

  • You sign in with your own mobile number. Give true information about yourself, and keep your password and sign-in codes to yourself.
  • One person, one account. Do not use another person’s account or let another person use yours.
  • You are responsible for what is done with your account.
  • [For the lawyer: the minimum age to hold an account.]

2. What you post

Posts, comments, photos, answers, trip plans and the information you contribute about places remain yours. So that we can run the service, you give us permission to store them, show them to the people they are meant for, translate and resize them, and keep contributed place information in the places database after your account is gone, without your name.

Post only what you have the right to post. Do not post:

  • anything unlawful, hateful, threatening, harassing or sexually explicit;
  • scams, requests for money, advance payments or bank and mobile-wallet details;
  • advertising or spam, or content for another person’s business without saying so;
  • another person’s private information, or photos of people who would not want them shared;
  • false information about a place, a price, a permit or a person.

We may remove content and limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules. Our moderators decide on reports; a decision can be questioned by writing to us.

3. Travel information is a guide, not a guarantee

  • Prices, permits, opening times, network coverage, routes and safety notes are collected from travellers and from open sources. They change, and they can be wrong. Each figure is shown with where it comes from and its date; a value we do not know is shown as unknown.
  • Trip plans and costs from the trip assistant and the budget planner are estimates worked out from that information and from prices looked up online. They are not quotations, and nothing is booked or reserved.
  • Visa information is general. Rules change and differ for each traveller: always confirm with the official source of the country concerned before you travel or pay anyone.
  • Money and bank information (for example about carrying foreign currency) is shown as an estimate only: confirm with your bank.
  • Check what matters with the provider, the authority or a recent visitor before you rely on it. You travel at your own risk.

4. Meeting other travellers, and companions

  • Companion matching is for verified travellers aged 18 or older, of the same gender.
  • We do not vet individuals. Verification confirms that an account belongs to a real person who passed our check on the day; it is not a background check and not a recommendation.
  • Meeting, travelling or sharing costs with someone you met through the service is your own decision and at your own risk. Meet in public places first, tell someone you trust where you are going, and never send money in advance.
  • Report anyone who asks for money, behaves in a threatening or sexual way, or seems to be someone else. You can block anyone.

5. Guides

  • Guides listed on the service are independent. They are not our employees or agents. We check a guide’s application and identity document, but we do not guarantee their services, prices or conduct.
  • Any arrangement between you and a guide is between the two of you. We are not a party to it and take no payment for it.
  • A guide must give true information and keep it up to date; changes to a guide’s packages, description and photos are shown after a moderator has approved them.

6. Trips and shared expenses

The trip planner and the expense tracker record what the group enters and work out who owes whom. We do not move money and are not responsible for whether members pay each other.

7. Points, badges and rewards

  • Points and badges are earned by trips, contributions and help to other travellers.
  • Points are not money. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be given or sold to another person.
  • Rewards are gifts we choose to give. They are earned, never drawn by chance: there are no lucky draws or lotteries. A reward is available while the month’s stock lasts, and some rewards need a verified account.
  • We may cancel points or rewards obtained by cheating, false contributions or abuse.

8. Automatic answers

The trip assistant answers automatically, on its own page and, where a public post asks for a plan, in a comment marked as automatic. Its figures come from our own tables and from prices looked up online; a language model may be used to read a question and to put an answer into natural words. It can be wrong. Treat its answers as a starting point for your own planning.

9. Using the service fairly

  • Do not try to break, overload or get around the protections of the service.
  • Do not collect other people’s data from it, by hand or by program.
  • Do not copy the places database in bulk. Parts of it come from open sources under their own licences (see Credits), which continue to apply.

10. Availability and changes

We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of faults. We may change or remove features. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect; if you go on using the service after that, you accept the new terms.

11. Ending

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk.

12. Our responsibility

[For the lawyer: the limits of liability and the disclaimers that the law of Bangladesh allows, in particular for travel information, for the conduct of other travellers and of guides, and for loss during a trip.]

[For the lawyer: the governing law, and where and how a dispute is settled.]
